Victor-Jean-Baptiste-Barthélémy Binet

French, 1849-1924

Victor Binet first worked as a decorative painter. He then studied with the great Barbizon Animal and landscape artist Constant Troyon, and dedicated himself to landscape painting. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1878 onwards, winning a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889. He was elected officer of the Legion of Honor in 1900. Binet sent a landscape to the Royal Academy in London in 1886. The surroundings of the region of Saint-Aubin-sur-Quillebeuf and of Arcueil furnished the themes of many of his canvases.
