French, 1868-1939
Eugene Deshayes demonstrates in his oils and watercolors an illustrative style with a bright and sun-filled coloration. Inspired by North Africa, Corsica, the Balerian Islands, Provence, and Ile-de France, Deshayes exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1894 onwards. His subject matter was orientalist caravans and encampments, brightly colored and flowered landscapes. This charming beach side scene is typical of his work in its vivid high keyed tonality.
