French 1851-1931

Adrien Schulz was born in Paris in 1851. He was a student of two landscape artists, Emile Dardoize and Hector Hanoteau. Schulz lived in Montigny-sur-Loing where he was the neighbor of Alfred Sisley. He applied himself to painting, as well as ceramics, at his atelier in Montigny-sur-Loing. From there he painted along the banks of the Marne and Loing River, the Forest of Fontainebleau, and in the region of the Rhine.

He debuted at the Salon de Paris starting in 1876 exhibiting “Saules sur les bords de la Marne a Joinville-le-Pont” and a charcoal entitled “Bords de la Marne a Créteil”, His participation at the Paris Salon des Artiste Francais was consistent, and he also later exhibited at the Salon d'Automne of which he was a founding member. A retrospective exhibition of his works was held posthumously, organized at the Salon d'Autumne de Paris.
