Ruth Dunken Harrison was born in Nashville, Tennessee, but spent most of her life in Waco and Dallas. She was a painter, graphic artist, and teacher.
Harrison attended Baylor University, Waco, The University of Colorado, Boulder, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National School of Art, Washington, D.C. and the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence. In Dallas, she was a student of Martha Simkins, and studied at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts under Otis Dozier. In Chautauqua, New York, she was a student of Revington Arthur and H. Richard Duhme.
Harrison taught privately in Dallas from 1948 to 1957, and was art director and instructor at the Hockaday School from 1958 to 1995.
Harrison died in Dallas and was buried in Waco.
